ABOUT THE EVENT:
On June 7th, Lorraine’s will hold their annual Golf Tournament at Chicopee Country Club. This event is the single largest event fundraiser for Lorraine’s, bringing in over $35,000 for the soup kitchen in a single day.
“What many people don’t realize is that there are individuals who live and work in our community who are struggling to provide food for themselves or their families. A donation of $40 to Lorraine’s Soup Kitchen will feed a family of four for a week with groceries from our local pantry. Imagine what $35,000 can do.” said Joseph Montemagni, Board President of Lorraine’s and President of Baystate Rug & Flooring. Baystate was last year’s Platinum Sponsor and Montemagni understand the importance of local companies sponsoring this event. “As a business owner in a community where there is a need, I feel it our responsibility to give back what we can,” he adds.
The tournament will feature several contests, including the Bob Pion hole-in-one, closest to the pin, longest drive for men and women. Door prizes and raffle will be available and have featured some big ticket items such as a weekend golf getaway and flat screen TVs. “For this tournament, our combined raffle prizes have valued over $10,000,” says Jeff Cady, president of Chicopee Electric Light and chairperson of the Lorraine’s Golf Tournament Committee. “Our committee works very hard to put on a great tournament and bring in some heavy-hitting prizes,” he adds.
The awards banquet will begin at 4 p.m. Cost to participate is $125 per person and includes lunch, golf, and dinner. Dinner features a full buffet spread and snack and small bite stations are set up throughout the day on the course. Last year, Masse’s Seafood Bistro set up a raw bar on the course, and multiple vendors offered samplings of vodka, microbrews, and even a cigar bar.
“This tournament has turned into one of the events of the season.” says Andrea Marion, Executive Director of Lorraine’s. Marion has been with the organization since 2012 and has seen the evolution of the tournament over the years. “We listen to what golfers want to make it a great day. Year after year, we pack the course and are happy to offer an element of luxury to this event which is our biggest fundraiser of the year,” she adds.
